OUR HISTORY
Founded in the 1980s by Gerald Shap, in response to South Africa’s growing demand for photographic film, Tudortech (formerly Tudor Photographic) had its humble beginnings in an office in Cape Town.
As its film business grew, Tudortech expanded and was successful in winning the sole distribution rights to Japanese lens icon, Sigma. In 1994, Gary Shap joined the business and began growing Tudortech nationwide. In 2000, as the digital photo revolution began to take hold, Tudortech won the rights to distribute the global leader in flash memory solutions, SanDisk.
From that day on there was no looking back as Tudortech expanded its operations into the mobile, mass retail and IT channels. Tudortech continued to expand through innovation and success in sales and marketing that attracted the interest of world-famous German camera and binocular manufacturer, Leica. Japanese camera manufacturer, Olympus soon followed.
We are proud to announce that as of December 2015 we welcomed Dyson, one of the world’s premium technology brands, to our company as their exclusive distribution partner in South Africa. We now have over 80 Dyson retail displays nationwide. The brand is growing strongly amongst SA consumers and proves that South Africans do appreciate quality and innovation.
Western Digital purchased SanDisk in 2016 and proceeded to appoint Tudortech as their distribution partner in South Africa. That led to further growth in the business and gave us the ability to manage and grow the entire storage category for our retail customers.
Today, Tudortech employs close to 100 people and operates out of two main offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg. As a retail and channel specialist that enjoys outstanding relationships with major independent, mass retail, mobile and IT groups in South Africa, Tudortech offers considerable expertise and local knowledge in the art of sales, merchandising, marketing, logistics and distribution.
